thesis yikes
Posted: May 12th, 2010 | Author: garrett | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments » There are several concepts that I really enjoyed about my mini thesis. First I found the study of information flow between individuals really fascinating. I think that there are a lot of applications of this from advertising and marketing to news, word-of-mouth, and technological information dissemination. I think that my final project will center around the idea of an application that Jia Qi and I thought of called Mercury.
The idea is to create a fine-tuned information retrieval system that can function across platforms. The end result should allow users to drill down into a topic and also be informed about related topics. The model is Pandora – the music prediction service that uses several factors to accurately predict and suggest other music in the genre. The service also brokers deals with record companies to allow the service to suggest a wide range of music. I think that this could be something that would apply to the new-traditional media gap, and that it could be used to Mercury’s advantage.
So I hope this wasn’t too vague, but the whole point of the service is to create a bridge between new and traditional media.
