Once Upon a Time in the Bronx, opens on Wed April 4thPosted by
Once Upon a Time in the Bronx, a collaborative storytelling project designed with Bronx high school students to create mechanisms for telling stories about their community, opens on Wednesday April 4th as part of No Longer Empty’s This Side of Paradise exhibition.
The project began by redesigning an existing story telling card game, originally featuring characters from fairy tales, to involve people and locations from the Bronx. After working with Burak Nehbit to redesign the deck with locally photographed images, we worked with Katy Rubin to use games to develop an interactive Forum Theater project about race, gender and identity. During the Forums, audience members join actors onstage to brainstorm alternative possibilities to overcome the discrimination faced by the characters. The work will be performed on Thursday May 3rd at 6:30 pm and Saturday May 5th at 3:00 pm, as part of the This Side of Paradise exhibition at the Andrew Freedman Home, 1125 Grand Concourse in the Bronx,
